Crackers haven’t stopped bursting but news about the Deepavali releases is out.
There are surprises this time and surprises they are! It has everything - a dark horse galloping steadily to the podium, an expected frontrunner limping his way out of the race, well almost and a steady runner wining it with ease.
We are here to make sense of all that we hinted above. Vel, Surya-Asin-starrer, directed by Hari seems to be doing well across all centers impressing both the youth and family audiences alike, with an interesting blend of action, romance and comedy. Coming a close second is Kannamoochi Enadaa, which is being well received by family audiences in the urban centers. Now the anticlimax. The most expected film of the festive season, Azhagiya Tamil Magan opened very well in all the centers during the weekend but come Monday and theatres are reporting poor response for advance booking.
Sources say that it might slip to the fourth place in the coming weeks. At the fourth place, right now, is Polladhavan, which is the dark horse that is picking up with good word of mouth spreading around in all centers across the state and analysts feel it has the potential to emerge the winner. However, Machakaaran seems to be the lone loser this time with an unimpressive opening and not so encouraging word of mouth response either. In just a week after Deepavali, the box office has witnessed turmoil of sorts. With more movies getting ready for the post-Deepavali frenzy, get ready for bigger upsets. Wait for our top ten ratings to get the clear picture by the close of this weekend.
