If one has got a parent who has made a mark in politics it is a forsaken conclusion that his ward would also step into the footsteps of his parent to claim the legacy. But there is a slight paradigm shift in this notion. Now the wards of successful politicians are giving preference to films as a career rather than pursuing a career in politics, probably the lure of glamour being a more lucrative option than venturing into the back waters of rural hinterlands to claim the mantle and the legacy of the parent.
In the recent times Ritesh Deshmukh who has made a successful career for him in the film world has made a successful transition of this kind. It is his success that has kindled the aspiration in other politician scions as well. The latest entrants into the arena are Chirag Paswan who is the son of Union Minister Ram Bilas Paswan and another entrant is Pankaj Kesri who is the grand son of Late Sita Ram Kesri who was a treasurer of the Congress Party for quite a long time. In the recent times Ashish Channana who was the son of a reputed politician from Punjab started this trend. It is altogether a different matter that he could not make out a career for himself in the films.
Were one to analyze the reason for preference of films as a launching pad for few scions of the politicians, it is the glamour quotient associated with the process and the relative ease of entry owing to the political clout that the new entrants enjoy could be the catalytic factor.
It also serves the cause of political parents as well. If the offspring has been able to make a mark for him then he or she can be used as a crowd attracting proposition as the novelty of a film stars always brings about the crowds to the political rallies. Besides, this also provides an opportunity to launch the political career at a later stage after making a mark in the film industry. As it is film stars have been crossing over to the political turf for quite a long time.
It would indeed be of interest to see whether Ritesh Deshmukh and Chirag Paswan would ultimately turn over to politics or not, once their film career starts undergoing hiccups. For political scions, however a new territory is opening up, and this could be used as a path to gain acceptability among the masses and pave the way for smooth switchover to politics.
