Goa: After producing with films like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, Ek Doctor Ki Maut and Mirch Masala, the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) has gone through a lull. But now, it is planning to get its groove back through the International Film Festival of India. Saturday Nov 24 11:35 PM
NFDC was established in 1975 with the sole intention to promote the art of cinema in India by financing films great in content even if they were commercially unviable.
In 32 years, NFDC has produced over 300 films till date which included projects by greats such as Satyajit Ray, Shyam Bengal and G Aravindan. However, in recent years NFDC productions haven't really been able to grab eyeballs.
Now, at the 38th International Film Festival of India in Goa, NFDC is trying to return to its former glory. With its Film Bazaar happening alongside the film festival, they are conducting scriptwriting workshops and providing forums for discussion on film production.
Filmmakers Shekhar Kapur, Mani Ratnam and Ketan Mehta were just some of the participants.
In a bid to promote Indian cinema, NFDC plans to primarily produce films for debutant directors apart from co-producing films of other filmmakers.
