The Supreme Court today accepted actor Sanjay Dutt's bail plea and granted him bail. The actor had been sentenced to six years earlier by the TADA Court under the Arms Act in the Mumbai bomb blast case of 1993.
The Supreme Court had already indicated that it would grant bail to all those under lighter sentences. Hence it was quite expected that Dutt would be among those who would be granted bail by the court. The actor is currently serving time at Pune's Yerawada Jail. Dutt had earlier been granted interim bail by the court on August 20 but had to surrender once he received a copy of the TADA court judgement. The court also took up the bail plea of nine others besides the actor. The actor's family is very relieved that he will finally be out and a free man. But it will still take a few days before Dutt can walk out of Yerawada Jail a free man. The legal process is likely to take a couple of days at least.
