Pritish Nandy has put together a collection of paintings on canvas that will be showcased at The Tao Art Gallery, Worli from December 1 to 15.

In this exhibition, PN breaks through the artificial barriers between art and poetry to create a totally unique visual experience that he hopes will eventually revive the audience for poetry just as Jim Morrison and Bob Dylan broke through the artificial barriers between music and poetry and Yevgeny Yevtushenko between poetry and drama. In every era, poetry needs to be rediscovered, PN believes, through a dramatic discourse with another art form.

He has had several exhibitions, solo and with others. He has worked with Manjit Bawa and held a path breaking show at the Contemporary Art Gallery in Delhi. He has worked with Samir Mondal and held a show with Ashish Balram Nagpal. Another show in Mumbai was at the Jehangir Art Gallery. He has held a show in Kolkata which Husain introduced and for which Amitabh Bachchan did a street play outside Gallery 88 where it was held.

Actually, PN does not see these as poetry exhibitions. He sees them as exhibitions of art where words stray in, almost as if by accident. There is serendipity here, an element of uncertainty and magic. His art has been shown all over the world in different shows, the latest being the show in Tokyo curated by Kalpana Shah of Tao Art Gallery who incidentally is hosting the current show as well.

The concept of this particular exhibition is that PN's art is unique in that it centres around the magic and miracle of words. He deconstructs poetry into haunting visual images. Collectors swear by his art just as audiences swear by the films PNC makes.

He draws his inspiration from life, love, faith. But, for PN, love is the single most powerful metaphor of our times.

A preview for a select number of people was held on December 1
