Yes, we are talking about the supporting actor in Hindi films. Finally their day seems to have arrived. Today they are commanding a hefty price and getting away with it.

The actor who started this revolution is none other Paresh Rawal. In a way, he has done what Mehmood did earlier, becoming a bigger attraction than the heroes, who do not always guarantee full houses. His price seems to be touching a staggering Rs 1.50 crore, a sum he is being paid by Venus Films for his role in Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam, while the hero Rahul Bose has been paid only Rs 70 lakh and Mallika Sherawat had been paid Rs 90 lakh. So it seems quite clear who is the real boss. Vinay Pathak, on the other hand is asking for Rs 1 crore but may not actually get it. This actor has hiked his price ever since Bheja Fry did so well at the multiplexes. Ranvir Shorey, who has delivered outstanding performances in recent films like Khosla ka Ghosla, Traffic Signal and even the recent Aaja Nachle, too is demanding Rs 1 crore but he does not make it an issue if the role has substance and the film's budget is on the lower side. But the actor who is way ahead of them is Arshad Warsi, who made it big with the Munnabhai series. The versatile actor, who is widely recognized as Circuit, is believed to be charging and getting close to Rs 2 crore per film. In his case, he manages to get away with it as his names adds value to projects. Rajpal Yadav too seems to be very busy these days and has come a long way today as he too asks for almost a crore today. Though his name may not sell a project but it adds great value to any project. And then, there are the likes of Ashish Chowdhury, on a high since the success of Dhamaal. Unlike the earlier days, when a single actor could rake in the crowds, today every film is like a train and if you have a good engine, that is, a salebale star, then these supporting actors serve as coaches. So everybody seems to be jumping into these trains.
