Director Priyadarshan has not given up in his penchant for remaking Malayalam hits, despite the failure of Dhol. In fact, if reports are to be believed, the prolific director has launched yet another remake.
Priyadrashan is currently remaking the Malayalam hit Ishtam in Hindi. Ishtam, which released six years ago, was directed by Siby Malayil, a popular filmmaker from Kerala. The director is shooting the film in Goa with Akshaye Khanna and his perennial favourite actor, Paresh Rawal. The duo play father and son in this remake which has been titled Mere Baap Pehle Aaap. The film is being produced by Shemaroo. It seems that even though the director was keen on making something original this time, the production house decided to go with his well proven track record of delivering hits with remakes of Malayalam films, like Bhool Bhulaiya,. They wanted him to go safe and make another comedy. The Hindi remake of Ishtam also stars Genalia D'Souza. After a not-so-successful stint in Mumbai, she has made it pretty big in Tamil and Telugu cinema. The heroine in the original was played by Navya Nair. Actor Paresh Rawal steps into the shoes of Nedumudi Venu. He plays the role of a rich widower with two sons. His bachelor son, played by Akshaye Khanna, runs a successful department store and the father wants to see him married and settled down. But the son has other ideas and wants to first fond a bride for his father before that. Meanwhile, priyadarshan, who professes to love Khosla Ka Ghosla, is now producing the Malayalam remake of the movie, to be directed by his assistant Vijay. So the remake express continues.
