Today, Superstar Rajinikanth, the biggest star of Kollywood, celebrates his birthday.
Since his debut in cinema in 1975, the actor has made waves with every film he did. His first film was Katha Sangama in Kannada. He made his debut in Tamil in a supporting role in the film Apoorva Raagangal. Born Shivaji, the actor was christened Rajinikanth by director K. Balachander, the man who gave him his first break in Tamil cinema.
Besides Balachander, another director who made a great contribution to his career was S.P. Muthuraman. He was the one who introduced Rajni in a positive role in Bhuvana Oru Kelvikuri. This was followed by films like Mullum Malarum, Aarilirunthu Aravathu Varai, 16 Vayathinile.
During this time, Rajni and Kamal Haasan did many films together and the duo became a hit duo on screen. Along with Sridevi, the films they made together were blockbuster hits.
Rajni had many ups and downs in his career; every time, he came back with lots of grit. Films like Billa (remake of Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don), Murattukaalai, Pokkiri Raja, Thanikattu Raja, Naan Mahaan Alla and Moondru Mugam established his Superstar status.
His later films like Muthu, Thalapathy, Annamalai, Arunachalam, Padaiyappa, Basha were all a treat for his fans. He even digressed from popular cinema with movies like Raghavendra and Baba.
Rajinikanth has done films in Hindi as well. He worked with Amitabh Bachchan in films like Andha Kanoon and Hum. His role in Sridevi's Chaalbaaz was a real treat. The comedy by the two on screen was absolutely fabulous.
He made a big comeback with Chandramukhi; this year, he followed it up with the biggest blockbuster in the history of Indian cinema Sivaji - the boss.
Daughter Soundarya is busy working on an animation film Sultan, a superhero who is modelled on the Superstar. Rajinikanth is taking a lot of interest in this project.
Let's wish this actor par excellence a wonderful birthday. One hope to see him light up the screen for a very long time.
Happy Birthday, Rajni Sir!
