Shillong, Dec 12 (IANS) Legendary heavy metal band Scorpions flew into Shillong in a helicopter, promising a high voltage performance at a massive stadium in India's new 'rock capital'.

By Wednesday afternoon, all roads in Meghalaya's capital lead to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium where the German rock group will begin the India leg of its Humanity World Tour with 'love and not war' being the underlying theme.

'The air is just so fresh, we love the place. We have heard Shillong is India's rock capital and we are ready to rock with you guys,' Klause Meine, the band's vocalist, told journalists late Tuesday soon after getting out of a chartered helicopter at the Umroi airport.

'We will love to introduce before the crowd our latest album 'Humanity Hour',' Meine said.

Up to 20,000 music aficionados, lots of them metal maniacs, are expected to throng the stadium to be treated to an estimated 110 decibels of sound Wednesday night.

The organisers have made 25 freight trips, bringing in 50 tonnes of equipment to this cloud-capped, hilltop city for Wednesday's mega musical performance.

The police are not taking chances and have decided on four rings of security at the venue to avoid any security breach.

'We shall send back anybody smelling of alcohol. No one in an inebriated condition will be allowed entry,' a police spokesman said.

Local musicians and fans are expecting a great show.

'It is good that people here are getting international bands and stars,' said Shillong-based singer Lou Majaw, one of India's popular musicians. Majaw is set to open the show with a performance by his band The Great Society.

Scorpions, which gave all time hits like 'Still Loving You', 'Winds of Change', 'Always Somewhere', and 'Send Me An Angel', is on a world tour to drum up support for its new album - 'Humanity Hour 1'.

'The mood is ecstatic with music lovers simply getting restless to watch the concert,' said Ming Larsing, managing director of Centre Point Entertainment Network, the main organiser of the event.

For many locals here, Scorpions is a band whose songs they grew up with and are hence waiting to see them rock live.

'It would be a dream come true to actually be at a live concert with Scorpions. We grew up listening classics like 'Rhythm Of Love' and 'Under The Same Sun',' said Peter Marbaniang, a college teacher.

The band will also perform in Mumbai Dec 14 and Bangalore Dec 16.
