London, Dec 13 (ANI): Music icon Tina Turner's abusive ex husband Ike Turner passed away at the age of 76.

There is still no news as to the cause of his death and the only thing revealed was that he had died at his home.

"He did pass away this morning, at his home in San Marcos, in San Diego County," The Sun quoted a spokesman for his management firm Thrill Entertainment, as saying.

Ike Turner was a blues legend, but his career was always overshadowed by shocking stories of how he would hit his wife.

The couple married in Mexico in 1962, but they divorced after 16 years. The two have a son from this marriage.

Tina revealed all, in her 1986 autobiography "I, Tina" but Ike denied the accusations for many years.

However, he did admit it in 2001 saying: "Sure, I've slapped Tina. There have been times when I punched her to the ground without thinking," the Sun reported him as admitting in 2001.

But the blues legend still insisted: "I never beat her."

Tina insisted many of his problems were due to cocaine and booze addictions. (ANI)
