Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 16 (IANS) Veteran Malayali superstar Mohanlal is all set to play a magician in his next film, the songs for which have been penned by a Class X student.

The muhurat of Mohanlal's latest film, titled 'Swapnamalika', was held at his Vismaya Film Studio here.

Speaking to IANS, Mohanlal said this is the first time that he is playing a magician in a film.

Another highlight of the film is that the three songs of the film have been written by Class X student Aparna Karimpil, who is daughter of film's director K.A.Devarajan.

'This is the first time that I am writing songs for a film. The songs have a romantic touch and have nothing to do with magic or illusion,' said Aparna.

'Yes, this is something unique, the role which I play. Basically, the story delves into the philosophical realms and the trials and tribulations of a magician. It is a commercial film. The story also looks into the relationship of mine with my son and also with my assistant, played by Meera Jasmine,' said Mohanlal, who was unwilling to reveal anything more.

Speaking to reporters here after the muhurat, director of the film Devarajan said he had approached Mohanlal with a slightly different story.

'But it was he who transformed what I had in mind to this film. Even though the film is based on a magician, which is played by Mohanlal, the film has little magic as such. It is a film which explores the world of strange relationships,' said Devarajan, whose passion for making children's film is well known.

The film is produced by Karimpil Films.

Upcoming young scriptwriter Unnikrishnan has written the script for the film. He is bubbling with enthusiasm because he feels this is certainly a film with a difference, which would bring out the best in actor Mohanlal.

'Mohanlal plays a 55-year-old magician and his relationship with his son, which is likely to be played by Prithviraj, is an interesting aspect of the film. The son suspects his father's relationship with Meera,' said Unnikrishnan.
