Teji Bachchan, 93, the wife of poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and mother to Amitabh Bachchan, passed away yesterday at the Lilalvati Hospital. She had been hospitalized for more than a year and had been suffering from various age-related ailments.
Teji Bachchan's health took a turn for the worse on Thursday and she was admitted to the ICU. The Bachchan family, including Amitabh and his son Abhishek ands brother Ajitabh reached the hospital early in the morning and were followed by family friends like Anil Ambani and Subroto Roy. Almost five years ago, in Janury 2003, the legendary poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan passed away at the age of 96. Since then, she has been in and out of hospitals. The family residence at Prateeksha saw a stream of mourners from Bollywood including filmmaker Yash Chopra, Karan Johar and Pradeep Sarkar, actors Asrani, Ajay Devgan, Kajol, Ritesh Deshmukh and other well-wishers like Bappi Lahiri, Abu Jani and Goldie Behl.
