The last time they came together was in Feroz Khan's Dharmatma in the Seventies, even though they did not share any screen space together. The two Tamilian beauties will appear together again in Raj Kanwar's Sadiyaan.

It all happened when Shabana Azmi turned down Raj Kanwar's Sadiyaan and the offer then went to Hema Malini, who gladly accepted it. Hema will now be acting alongside her contemporary, another Tamilian beauty, Rekha. Kanwar , who it is believed is desperately trying to hide the casting plans of his mature love story, is quite ecstatic. Even Rekha is reported to be very kicked about the movie. She is believed to have said that it is a 'dream role'. Originally, Kanwar had planned the film with Shabana Azmi, Rekha and Rishi Kapoor. But Shabana tunred down the offer because she did not agree with some things in the script, and not because of Rekha, as had been reported earlier in certain sections of the media. Rekha is also believed to be delighted that Hema, lone of her favourite colleagues, is playing the other woman's role. Meanwhile, besides Kanwar's film, Hema has also signed her first Tamil film opposite Kamal Hassan.
