Banned in Bihar, Ravi Kishan says he is being bullied

Mumbai: Bhojpuri superstar Ravi Kishan is in trouble as he faces a ban on his films in Bihar and Jharkhand for supporting actor Mithun Chakraborty. The decision was taken by the Bihar and Jharkhand Motion Picture Producers Association on Monday in Patna.

“They want me to say sorry. I will come forward and definitely say sorry, but I just want to know the reason why they are stuck on one thing. Why should I apologise? I will get my answer and I will be fine after that,” Ravi said.

The Association has banned the actor's films after he came out in support of Mithun, who protested against the dubbing of his Bengali film Coolie into Bhojpuri without his consent. Kishan says his stand on the issue is still the same but he did try to sort out the problem.

“I tried talking to them but nobody came forward. They said I have said something against the Association and something in favour of Mithun Chakraborty. This is a free country, and you have freedom of speech. If you have a problem there is a solution, there is always a way out. You don’t just come out and say you are banned, or give your resignation,” Ravi said.

Kishan currently has about a dozen films in various stages of production and half a dozen more ready for release. Amongst them is Gabbar Singh, one of the most expensive Bhojpuri films ever, made on a budget of more than Rs 2 crore, and a ban on his films will mean huge losses for the producers.

“He thinks what he is doing is right but if we take a step then we are labeled as doing dadagiri,” President of Bihar-Jharkhand Motion Picture Producer's Association Dr Sunil Kumar said.

It’s an industry, which is growing every year and with 100 Bhojpuri films in a year now, it’s tapping new markets both in India and overseas.
