No Bollywood biggie is hitting your screens this Friday, but James Bond star Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman team up for The Golden Compass. Also hitting the screens this Friday is action comedy Balls of Fury.

The Golden Compass

An adaptation of Phillip Pullman's controversial fantasy series, The Golden Compass follows Lyra, an orphan girl who is out to save her friends from the evil 'Gobblers'.

Daniel Craig plays Lyra's uncle who's been researching 'dust' which is their world's best-kept secret.

Nicole Kidman plays Mrs Coulter who asks Lyra to accompany her on a trip to the North but before they leave, the Headmaster gives lyra a golden compass, a device which only she can read, and from which she can intuit the truth.

And somewhere in between Lyra discovers the evil plans that the council has for all the children. An enormous budget and stunning visual effects is what drives this fantasy adventure by Chris Weitz.

Balls of Fury

Also hitting the screens this Friday is action comedy Balls of Fury that revolves around a down-and-out former professional Ping-Pong pro Randy, played by Dan Fogler, who's recruited by the FBI for a secret mission.

Randy is determined to bounce back and recapture his former glory, and to get his father's killer, Robert Patrick, played by Christopher Walken. And to win the day he has a blind Ping-Pong sage and restaurateur Wong for guidance.

This one directed by Robert Ben Garant promises some unique Ping-Pong tournaments, all with some straight faced humour.
