Having made an impressive mark in the airwaves of Chennai, Radio Mirchi has decided to foray into movie making.
Mirchi Movies Limited, the Filmed Entertainment arm of Times Group, is trying its hands at movie making in Hindi and regional languages including Tamil and Malayalam.
The banner has already joined hands with Prakash Raj’s Duet Movies and Moser Baer India Limited for the production of the Prakash Raj and Prithviraj starrer Vellithirai.
Mirchi Movies has also targeted to release twelve to fifteen films in India and worldwide by March 2009. Munish Purii, Chief Operating Officer of Mirchi Movies, stated that they are delighted to co-produce Vellithirai adding further that three more projects in Tamil are in the pipeline and will be made public soon. He mentioned that Tamil film industry has remarkably talented actors and technicians. Milind Rau, an associate director to Mani Ratnam on four films, including the super hit Guru has been roped in for two films to be produced by Mirchi. The first in the series, titled Kaadhal 2 Kalyanam, will be a romantic comedy and will hit the floors in early 2008. Mirchi Movies has also acquired the Tamil remake rights of the latest Prithviraj starrer Malayalam super hit Chocolate.
