Actor Irfan Khan is all set to play a gay in Mira Nair's next film, Migration. Of course, his decision to play a gay has surprised a few folks in Bollywood, but as Irrfan says, "there is no reason for me to say no to it.
Most Bollywood actors would shy away from playing a homosexual character on screen. And quite rightly so, seeing that we in India are still not quite open about gays. But Irrfan believes that society is changing and cinema too is going through a rapid change. The man who came from Jaipur, who came to Mumbai in the Nineties, after completing his stint at the National School of Drama, is now gearing up for the spirit Awards, which are seen as a precursor to the Oscars. Irrfan will be rubbing shoulders in the best supporting Actor category with stalwarts like Marcus Carl Franklin, Kene Holliday and Steve Zahn, for his performance in Mira Nair's The Namesake. Besides the award ceremony in Los Angeles, the actor has a lot to look forward to back home. This year will see quite a few of his films ready for release. Three of his film Krazy 4, Mumbai Meri Jaan, and Sunday are ready for release. So it seems to be a good start for the actor.
