Washington, Jan 7 (ANI): British singer Steven Patrick Morrissey may be performing in Iran along with a number of local artists.

The show is believed to be one of the first Western acts to appear in the country, if the negotiations go through successfully.

Morrissey is hopeful that he will be able to join acclaimed Arabian pop singer Kazem Al Sahir onstage, who is one of the star's professed heroes.

He is currently in talks with the Iranian government to perform there later this year (08).

However, 48-year-old Morrissey insists that he will perform in the Middle East even if the performance with al-Sahir does not go ahead.

"One way or another we will tour the Middle East - in terms of places like Jerusalem and Beirut. And we hope to play Iran," Contactmusic quoted Merck Mercuriadis, Morrissey's manager, as saying.

Morrissey's management is awaiting a formal response from Iran's Ministry Of Culture and Islamic Guidance on the matter. (ANI)
