Music maestro A R Rahman rang in his 42nd birthday on January 6 this year. And trust the genius to work on that day too. He did not hit the music studios but he did unveil his Apple authorized music conservatory in Chennai.
The reclusive music director has been working on his training centre, KM Music Conservatory, which offers training programmes in music and music technology. Rahman said that in the coming months, the conservatory will have singers and students from all over India training in performances and production. They will audition budding musicians and students who can play various instruments and the handpicked lot will then enroll for the course which promises to cover Western vocal and instrumental performance, Indian classical vocal, Western and Indian music theory, music appreciation and ear training. As far as music technology goes, Rahman intends to train his students in audio engineering as well. Rahman feels that having the knowledge of both music performance and technology is invaluable. The skill to perform an instrument combined with production capabilities will ensure many more opportunities, he feels. The music maestro is currently trying to get musicians for his orchestra. The passouts from the conservatory will get to audition for the KM Music Symphony Orchestra.Indian composers generally travel abroad to record with orchestras. It is Rahman's vision to provide an orchestra in India.
