Prashant Tamang and Amit Paul: For putting Northeast on the nation's entertainment map. While Prashant Tamang was Darjeeling's darling, Amit Paul brought all the tribes of Meghalaya together in his support. These Indian Idol finalists drew in a record of over seven crore votes.

Shimit Amin and Jaideep Sahni: The men behind 2007's biggest critical and commercial success. This director-writer duo set down new rules for a formula driven Hindi film industry. While Shah Rukh Khan lead the hockey team on screen, behind it were the minds of these two movie mavericks who gave the entire nation a whole new patriotic war cry.

Akshay Kumar: From being 'just another hero', Akshay went on to become the most bankable Bollywood star of 2007 with four successive box office hits. He may not be as market savvy as SRK but if there's anyone who can give King Khan a run for his money - it has to be Akshay Kumar.

Shilpa Shetty: UK's Celebrity Big Brother made her an international celebrity of sorts and a household name in Britain. She became the Indian mascot for anti-racism, went on to hobnob with the royalty and was even awarded an honorary doctorate by Leeds Metropolitan University. Add to that a power-packed performance in Life in A Metro and it was a win win year for Shetty.
