The six-week long schedule of Deepa Mehta's English-Punjabi bilingual, Heaven on Earth has just wrapped up. The film deals with domestic violence and stars actress Preity Zinta in the lead role.
It seems that Deepa really made her actors sweat it out. It was a long arduous six-week shoot in Brampton, Canada. All the actors had to go thorough a ten-day workshop. Once the film's shoot started, things just a little more hectic for the actors. They shot at an average of 12 hours a day for the film. And none of the cast, Preity included, could go out partying. It was like taking a deep breath, diving into an ocean and coming up, only to inhale. The other actors in the film, include stage actress Ramanjit Kaur, who plays Preity's sister-in-law in the film. The actress had done a small role in Fire as well. It seems that Deepa has woven mythical elements from Girish Karnad's play Nagamandalam, into her film as well. One hopes that this film fares better than Jagmohan Mundhra's Provoked, another film on domestic violence.
