AMSTERDAM (Reuters Life!) - Amsterdam's Casa Rosso theatre, one of the most famous landmarks of the "red light" district, has become the latest sex club to be threatened with closure as part of a drive to stamp out criminal activity.
Amsterdam's city council intends to withdraw Casa Rosso's licence, Dutch news agency ANP reported on Thursday, just weeks after it forced the Yab Yum brothel, another famous sex industry stalwart, to close.
In December, the council announced plans to clean up Amsterdam's historic red light district which draws thousands of tourists by fighting human trafficking, money laundering and drug abuse.
The city wants to stamp out forced prostitution by clamping down on pimps and demanding that brothel owners and escort agencies apply for permits.
It has withdrawn permits from dozens of sex businesses it accuses of links with organised crime.
Casa Rosso was unavailable for comment.
