One of the resolutions which has now assumed the proportion of being a fad is the self revelation among the celebrities in the Hollywood about the secrets of there growing process which is being considered as a process of cleansing of the soul. The celebrated example of this kind is that of Paris Hilton who had the guts to declare that she had abused the drugs.

It is however not so the case in our country as a result of which lots of gossip makes it to the news, which is accepted as a gospel. The burden of the souls is sought to be relieved either through hitting the bottle or by committing suicides. There are other exceptions where either a writer is commissioned to do the writing or a writer ventures on his own to do the same, these categories however are still in infancy.

One of the most prominent personas in the film personalities who have taken this route to burden his soul either through his writing or through utterance of the same by films that has been produced is Mahesh Bhatt, who has sort of relived his whole life and bared it threadbare in the public. Sanjay Dutt was another brave soul who had the guts to tell the public that he had done drugs, and he also went on to undergo rehabilitation as well.

One of the most tragic losses that Hindi film industry has suffered on account of not having the courage to express the feelings of the soul has been that of Guru Dutt and Meena Kumari. Had there been an encouragement to bare the soul probably Hindi cinema would have been much enriched.

The inability of the Hindi cinema fraternity to express the feelings in open and to unburden the soul must have got something to do with the societal upbringing which does not encourage the same, inspite of the fact that those who have done it have been revered for their courage to do so.

When one views this in context of a film personality, the inhibition to express one self stems probably from the aura that surrounds the persona of a film star in India, and expression of the soul is perceived as a sign of weakness and therefore is not an option worth consideration. But Mahesh Bhatt has already shown the way that one can use the tools of the medium to unburden the weight on the soul as he has been doing it for quite a long time through various films, be it NAAM, ZAKHM, KABZAA, etc.

For a star, medium of a film is one of the most expressive tools to express oneself and what better way than to show it in the form a story. As the industry strives to look for new scripts to get the monkey of flops off the back, it would be worthwhile to adapt one's own journey from larva to pupa as an oeuvre on the silver screen.
