Subhash Ghai, the showman of Hindi cinema, is set to make a comeback to direction with Black & White and Yuvraj. But the man insists that he has not been out of job as he was busy setting up his film institute, Whistling Woods International, which he equates to making ten films at the same time. Now that the work is complete, he says he is back fulltime as a director.
Ghai is very excited about Black & White, which stars Anil Kapoor and Shefali Shah. It is a film, he says, which is devoid of any colour. The film will also not have any songs. He calls the film a very personal film as it deals with the world's problems through the eyes of a dramatist. But he is quite upfront about the fact that he is not expecting everyone to watch the film. It is for an intelligent audience he says, adding that he will be catering to the general audience with his film Yuvraj, an all out commerical venture. He admitted that for the first time, with Black & white, he was shooting a film on a shoestring budget as it did not require any huge sets. Talking about Himesh Reshammiya and the Karz remake, the director admitted to feeling thrilled that someone wanted to make a remake on one of his films. He feels it is like a tribute to his work. He says that he was very happy about Om Shanti Om too when he was told that the film would make a reference to Karz in the film. With two films under his belt, the director is also very excited about being associated with Gateway, a reality television show, which invites aspiring filmmakers from all over the country to participate. So even though Black & White is devoid of colour, Ghai's life has quite a few colours in it right now.
