Preity Zinta is changing tracks these days with a vengeance. The mainstream actress is making a serious attempt to shed the 'bubbly' tag, specially after the lukewarm response her films like Jaane-e-Mann and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom received last year. The actress will now be seen in an impressive line of offbeat films.
Preity has probably understood something that Rani Mukherjee has failed to understand. Preity has managed to reinvent herself. She has opened herself up for different kind of offers, other than the standard Yash Raj or Karan Johar heroine. It seems that last year's colossal flop, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom really stirred the actress into doing something different. And now the actress has at least four off-beat films in her kitty. Leading among them is Rituparno Ghosh's English film, The Last Lear, which stars Amitabh Bachchan and Arjun Rampal, besides the actress. This films is complete and is currently doing the festival rounds. Then there is noted Assamese director Jhanu Barua's Har Pal. The film has Shiney Ahuja opposite the actress and may well be her first release this year. There is also Samir Karnik's Heroes, where she is paired opposite Salman. Lastly, there is director Deepa Mehta's Heaven On Earth, which is about a Punjabi girl who finds herself caught in an abusive marriage in Canada. This film is currently being shot. The line-up is impressive and one is sure that Preity's bid to go all out parallel will pay rich dividends.
