Mumbai: Aap Ka Suroor one of last year's biggest surprises and saw singer Himesh Reshammiya make his acting debut. The success of the film seems to have given a boost to Himesh's star status and he is ready with his next venture – a remake of the 70s hit Karz.Monday Jan 28 3:45 AM
The unforgettable hit has already been given a salute of sorts in Shah Rukh's Om Shanti Om, but now, Karz is being officially remade by T-Series and Himesh Reshammiya, who will step into Rishi Kapoor's role of Monty.
With the support of the original Karz hero and Subhash Ghai, the remake is all set to roll in February.
As for the changes you can expect in the new age Karz, it starts with the spelling itself – it has not two not three, but four ZZZZs in the title - Karzzzz!
Explaining the title, singer and actor Himesh Reshammiya said, "I believe in numerology. It looks funny, yes, but Bhushan Kumar was gracious to agree, and therefore the film has begun on the right note."
Himesh has been a fan of Karz right since his childhood, and has scored the music for the new film. Needless to add, he will also be lending his voice for most of the tracks.
To be directed by Satish Kaushik, Karzzzz will also stars Danny Denzongappa in Pran's role and Urmila Matondkar takes Simi Garewal's place. As was in Aap Ka Suroor, Himesh has cast a newcomer Shweta Kumar – who is also filmmaker Indra Kumar’s daughter – in Tina Munim's role.
"We wont have the same interpretation in a lot of things,” said Satish Kaushik. “Of course, they are outdated now, so things will be treated differently," he explained.
Danny was his usual, modest self.
"I obviously can't fill Pran's role,” he said. “Trying to copy him will make it a caricature, so I will give it my own touch."
Slated to release by August this year, the crew and cast of Karzzzz will be hoping to work the same magic as Aap Ka Suroor did, particularly in smaller towns and cities.
