Mumbai, Jan 29 (IANS) Indian movie lovers can now watch classics by noted French filmmaker Francois Truffaut, thanks to the efforts of an Indian entertainment firm Palador Pictures.

Palador, which buys the rights of classics and award-winning movies from across the globe to be supplied to the theatres, TV channels, internet, mobile, film festivals, corporates, colleges and clubs, has unveiled a package of five Francois Truffaut classics, titled Truffaut Collection in Mumbai Monday.

The firm also felicitated a visiting French film delegation. Noted French actress Olivia Bonamy, who is accompanying the Unifrance delegation, formally released the package.

The Truffaut classics included in the package are 'Shoot the Piano Player', 'The Soft Skin', 'Woman Next Door', 'Two English Girls' and 'Bed and Board'.

Inaugurating the package, Bonamy, famous for her role in 'Ils' ('Them') - the movie is being screened at the ongoing French film festival in the four metros - said she was overwhelmed by the response India was showing towards the French cinema.

Palador, which has a sizeable library of French cinema, also felicitated the former director of National Film Archive in India, P.K. Nair, film critic Rashid Irani, director Mahesh Mathai and cultural attache of the French Embassy, Mohammed Bendjebbour, on the occasion.

Welcoming the Unifrance delegation to Mumbai, Gautam Shiknis, founder and managing director of Palador Pictures, said India was now opening up to the world cinema like never before.

'Movies from France have always been popular among the discernible audience in India. Now that the latest French movies are easily available, their popularity and the popularity of the leading French actors is gradually soaring,' Shiknis said, citing the example of the response Olivia Bonamy, Julien Leclercq and Marie Guillard, the stars of 'Them', were getting during their current visit to India.
