Mumbai: The suave and sophisticated villains taking over Bollywood nowadays and the quintessential bad guys have ceased to exist.

The menacing lines coming from bad guys of Bollywood could send a shiver a down your spine. However, the blood curdling bad guys of the earlier generation seem to be missing. As our on screen characters turn from plain black and white to indistinguishable grey, it's Bollywood's big bad villains who seem to have taken a beating.

“Ten-years ago, we had many dacoit films and we use to have one evil, one vamp, one comedian in every film. However, the technique of making a film has changed now,” says actor, Shakti Kapoor.

The villain is no longer a predictable Shakti Kapoor, Ranjeet or Gulshan Grover. The changing narrative and moreover Shah Rukh Khan's success has made playing the bad guy a good option. The new generation bad boys played by Saif Ali Khan in Omkara, Amitabh Bachchan in Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag or Ajay Devgan in Khakee make the bad boy roles in Bollywood a lucrative option.

“I am playing a commando in the film who has long hair,” says actor, Vivek Oberoi.

“When ever there is a big villain role, it does not go to a conventional villain anymore. Heroes are dying to do anti-hero roles,” says Shakti Kapoor.

“It is a cycle. These kind of villains will come back,” says actor, Zakir Hussain.

So it may be quite sometime before we see another Gabbar onscreen. However, till then the threat looms large.
