After much speculation by the media, it has been officially announced that Meena, Tamil cinema’s numero uno actress of the 90s, will be the heroine of Kuselan, the forthcoming Rajinikanth film.
For starters, Kuselan, a remake of the recently-released Malayalam blockbuster Katha Parayumbol, is about the close friendship between a superstar and a poor barber. In Katha Parayumbol, Malayalam superstar Mammootty played the superstar, noted Malayalam scriptwriter-actor Sreenivasan played the barber and Meena played the role of the barber’s wife. Meena, who began her career as a child artiste in a Rajinikanth movie, will be reprising the role she played in the Malayalam original.
The Tamil version will see Rajinikanth as the superstar; Pasupathy plays the barber. The film, directed by P. Vasu, is produced by Rajini’s mentor K. Balachander. The up-and-coming G.V. Prakash Kumar is the film’s composer.
It was earlier speculated that Simran would be playing the role of the barber’s wife. Later, Bollywood actress Tabu’s name was doing the rounds. While Simran accepts that she was approached, it has now been confirmed that the Kuselan team has finally roped in Meena. Will this mark Meena’s re-entry into Kollywood?
