New Delhi: Gabbar Singh is back again and this time to scare you in Bhojpuri style.Thursday Feb 7 2:40 AM
Bhojpuri director, Mahesh Pandey and actress Mona Thibba are aiming to repeat Bollywood's biggest success as they pay tribute to the cult classic Sholay and this one is titled Gabbar Singh.
"I never wanted to hurt the sentiments of the people who have been in love with Sholay for the last 32 years. The movie we have made should not look like the mockery of the original film," says actor and director, Mahesh Pandey.
The director seems to have taken a cue from Ram Gopal Verma's highly forgettable Aag and decided not to give it many 'contemporary twists' to the Bhojpuri verion.
So keeping with the true Sholay spirit there is a shawl-clad ‘Thakur’ and also the quintessential ‘mehbooba’ song. Slight deviations include Gabbar Singh as a moustached sunglass sporting Bihari dacoit, and Basanti as a ‘drama queen’.
"My character in the film is full of surprises. I play the part of a ‘drama queen’, however, gradually there is a big transformation in me,” says actress, Mona Thibba.
Also starring Ravi Kissen and Jeetendra, Gabbar Singh which released in Patna on February 1st, signals Balaji Telefilms entry into Bhojpuri film production.
