Aishwarya Rai Bachchan seems to have a thing about historicals If Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodhaa Akbar was not enough, the actress is also believed to be doing Sir Ben Kingsley's Taj Mahal. And if all goes well, she may just play Princess Yashodhara, wife of Prince Siddharth, who became famous as Gautam Buddha.
The film on Buddha's life is being made by NRI Pan Nalin, who earlier made a film called Valley of Flowers starring Milind Soman and his French wife Mylene-Jampanoi. Ash has reportedly assured the director that she is keen to do the role. It is a multi-billion dollar project and Nalin is being backed by Oscar winning producer Barnet Bian and one of India's top business houses. According to Nalin, Ash is just perfect for the role. The director is currently in Mumbai to persuade the Bachchan bahu to do the film. During the course of their meeting, it is believed that Ash heard the story and asked Nalin various technical questions and other logistics of the project. She wanted to see his earlier film and promised to get back to him. The highpoint of the meeting was when Ash asked Nalin who would play the role of Gautam Buddha and the filmmaker replied that he thought Abhishek Bachchan was perfect for the role. Ash was apparently taken aback and told him to get in touch with her husband in Jaipur. Nalin is of course aware that there are a couple of other films on Buddha which are in the pipeline with Shekhar Kapoor and Shyam Benegal also expressing interest in making them. Nalin's film is going to be from Yashodhara's perspective.
