Mumbai: Javed Jaffrey stole the show with his wacky act in Salaam Namaste and now he is earning rewards for it.Wednesday Feb 13 3:00 AM
Jaffery has been on a film signing spree and has as many as eight projects lined up now. "It was only after Salaam Namaste that suddenly people took notice of me. They said where was this guy before?" he says.
"After Salaam Namaste I got as many as 20 offers and people said you do that role once again. But then after waiting for one and a half years I got Tara Rum Pum and then Dhamaal happened. People liked my work in Dhamaal"
Although Jaffery played key roles in films like 100 Days and Oh Darling Yeh Hain India in the nineties he didn’t quite become ‘hero’. TV shows like Boogie Woogie made him a household name but they almost lost him his foothold in Bollywood.
"What also happened is that the films were not right, and things didnt fall in place. I was perceived as not the right guy," says Jaffrey.
Now Jaffery is back with Akshay Kumar-starrer Eight by Ten and Singhh is King. He has also dubbed for the animation movie Roadside Romeo as well, but he really treasures are his smaller films like Shaurya, Vada Pao and Garam Chai.
This multi-faceted artiste, might have more or less retired as a dancer but Jaffrey, the actor, has a point to make: once an actor, is always an actor be it on the small screen or the big screen.
