The news doing the rounds is that actor Ajay Devgan will no longer be doing Rajkumar Santoshi's Ashoka and Ramayan. However, he is yet to speak to Santoshi about it personally and explain his reasons for doing so. The director is currently out of town.
According to sources, Ajay is very upset with Santoshi after Halla Bol tanked and the critics bashed his performance in the film. Ajay is very disappointed and only wants to do hardcore commericial films and not the serious social dramas Santoshi is associated with. He feels that the director no longer has the sensitivity that he once did. Besides that, it is being alleged that Santoshi took more than eight crores from PVR Pictures to start Ashoka and another film starring Shahid Kapur and Katrina Kaif. A part of the amount was to be given to the stars and technicians as signing amounts. But it is being rumoured that Santoshi used that money for his personal benefit. This has further upset Ajay, who is very straight in his money dealings. It is also believed that Santoshi's deal with PVR has also been terminated. The director meanwhile, is oblivious to all that is going on. He denies that the deal with PVR is over or that he spent the money he received from PVR Pictures on himself. He said that he had paid all the concerned people, including Ajay and Bipasha Basu. They have all received a signing amount from him which is the only reason he has got the dates from them. He also said that if Ajay is not doing his film, he would let him know. But Ajay is not talking in public right now.
