Madhur Bhandarkar is now seeking inspiration from Academy Award nominated, The Devil Wears Prada, starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathway.
Bhandarkar's latest film, Fashion, has a functional plot that seems to be direct lift from the Hollywood film, which revolves around a demanding fashion editor and a fresh-out-college girl who land herself a job at the magazine. Small-screen actress Manini De Mishra, last seen on the big screen in Krrish as Priyanka Chopra's friend, has been roped in to play the role of the powerful, manipulative editor in Madhur's film. The storyline has the editor mentoring designers and attending various fashion weeks around the globe. The actress has confirmed that she is playing a snooty, manipulative and opportunistic fashion editor who makes and breaks careers. The actress also confirmed that her character bears a resemblance to Meryl Streep's character in The Devil. So the actress is strutting around in high-end designer wear, including Prada, Chanel and Ferragamo, in the expensively costumed film produced by UTV. Rita Dhody is official stylist on the film and has worked on Maninee's look in the film. Well, playing a character modeled on Streep is certainly a tall order to live up to.
