Jaipur: The Rajput Karni Sena are appealing for boycotting Ashutosh Gowarikar's Jodhaa Akbar in Rajasthan and theatre owners can see a clear warning in their protests.Thursday Feb 14 11:46 PM
Karni Sena State President, Ajit Singh Mamdoli says, "We don't want any violence, but if any such situation emerges, the state government and the film producer and the administration will be entirely responsible."
Rajput organisations are angry at the portrayal of Rajput princess Jodhaa Bai as Akbar's wife in the movie. They believe this is factually incorrect and say she was actually Akbar's son, Jehangir's wife.
And this factual error, says Karni Sena, will hurt the community's sentiments. They now want to ensure the movie is not screened anywhere in Rajasthan.
Despite the Rajasthan High Court's directions to the administration to ensure peaceful screening of the movie — following a petition in this regard — fearing violence, theatre owners are shying away from taking the risk of screening the film.
Manager, Raj Mandir, Jaipur, Ashok Tanwar says, "We're not going to show the movie, we don't want to get into any dispute. The Karni Sena knows and Bombay people know what they are doing. We don't know anything else."
With no theatre ready to show Jodhaa Akbar in Rajathan, for those waiting to watch the movie, the disappointment couldn't have been bigger.
A resident of Jaipur, Suphian Rahil says, "We're very disappointed because this movie won't be released and we won't be able to watch Jodhaa Akbar."
While the police and the administration have assured theatre owners and distributors of peace just in case they do want to show the film, so far no one is ready to screen it.
Clearly in the land of Jodhaa, the release of Jodhaa Akbar seems fairly unlikely.
