Jaipur: Janata se appeal. Film 'Jodhaa Akbar' ka samaj hit mein bahiskar kare. Friday Feb 15 2:16 PM
Written in blood, this is Rajput Karni Sena appeal to Rajasthan for boycotting Ashutosh Gowarikar's Jodhaa Akbar in the state. The organisation insists that it's just an appeal.
"We don't want any violence. But if any such situation arises, the state government, film producer and the administration will be entirely responsible," Karni Sena state president Ajit Singh Mamdoli says.
But theatre owners see a clear warning in these words. After all the heated debate over its historical accuracy, the film is turning out to be too hot for the theatre owners in the state.
So when Gowarikar's period love story was released around the world on Friday, Jodhaa's home state shut its doors on it.
Rajput organisations are angry at the portrayal of Rajput princess Jodhaa Bai as Akbar's wife rather than his son Jehangir's wife in the movie, which they believe is factually incorrect and hurts the community's sentiments.
They now want to ensure that the movie is not screened anywhere in Rajasthan. Despite the Rajasthan High Court's directions to the administration to ensure peaceful screening of the movie following a petition in this regard, theatre owners are shying away from taking any risk, fearing violence.
While the police and the state administration have assured help to the theatre owners and distributors in case they want to show the film, so far no one has approached them with such a request.
Clearly in the land of Jodhaa, the release of Jodhaa Akbar seems fairly unlikely. "We're not going to show the movie. We don't want to get into any dispute. Only the Karni Sena and Mumbai people know about it all, we don't know anything else," Manager of Jaipur's famous Raj Mandir theatre, Ashok Tanwar, says.
With no theatre ready to show Jodhaa Akbar for those waiting to watch the movie, the disappointment couldn't have been bigger.
"We're very disappointed, because this movie won't be released here and we won't be able to watch it," Jaipur resident Suphian Rahil regrets.
