Darsheel Safary may have lost the Best actor award to Shah Rukh Khan for Chak De India but the 9-year old made Filmfare history as he bagged the Critics' Award for best actor for his heartwarming portrayal of a troubled dyslexic child in Taare Zameen Par.
Taare Zameen Par also lost best film to Chak De India, but did earn a Best Director trophy for its star helmer Aamir Khan who, true to his reputation, gave the ceremony a miss.
Meanwhile, the accolades don't seem to stop for Kareena Kapoor who walked away with Best Actress for her spirited and spontaneous performance as a garrulous Sikhni Bhatinda in Jab We Met.
The Best Supporting Actor and Actress awards deservedly went to Irrfan Khan and Konkona Sen Sharma for their entertaining performances in the sadly overlooked film, Life in a Metro.
In the music categories, Shaan took Best Male Playback Singer for his rendition of ‘Jab Se Tere Naina’ in Saawariya, while shreya Ghoshal was announced Best Female Playback Singer for her delivery of the song ‘Barso Re’ from Guru.
In what was easily one of the evening's most hotly contested category, A R Rahman was declared the winner of the Best Music award for his score for the film Guru, beating other hopefuls as Vishal Shekhar for Om Shanti Om and Pritam for Jab We Met.
Evergreen romantic hero Rishi Kapoor beamed as he took the stage to collect the award for Lifetime Achievement in Cinema, but the actor clearly looked more joyous when his son Ranbir walked up to collect his award for Best Male Debutant.
To nobody's surprise, Om Shanti Om leading lady Deepika Padukone was announced Best Female Debutante, and also took home the award for Fresh New Face of the Year.
In the Critics' Awards category, the Best Actress trophy went to Tabu for her inspired performance in Cheeni Kum, while Shimit Amin took Best Director for Chak De India, and Taare Zameen Par landed Best Film.
