Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan added that extra zing to the 53rd Filmfare Awards held on Saturday at the Yash Raj Studios. The duo set the tone for the evening when Bollywood's bold and beautiful first walked the red carpet, and then if they were lucky, the stage, to collect the black lady for work they had done in 2007.
Shah Rukh Khan, who won the Best Supporting Actor for Chak De India, took home his seventh, which is only one less than Dilip Kumar. Kareena Kapoor, perhaps the brightest star of the evening, got the Best Actress Award for Jab We Met in which she acted with ex-boyfriend Shahid Kapur. He was conspicuous by his absence as was Aamir Khan, whose Taare Zameen Par got the Best Diretor, Best Story, and the Critics Award For Best Actor for Darsheel Safary. The young 11-year-old had the audience in splits with his acceptance speech before SRK and Saif hoisted him on their shoulders and carried him away. Rishi kapoor who got the Lifetime Achievement Award from his first leading lady, Dimple Kapadia, was joined on the stage by his wife Neetu Kapoor. The veteran dedicated his award to his wife and his grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor. It was Ranbir's night as well as he won the Best Male Debutant Award. The Kapoor cousins, Ranbir, Riddhima, and Kareena and Karisma cheered lustily for each other in a show of much bonding. Besides the awards, there were the performances. Akshay Kumar, Kareena, Himesh Reshammiya, Vivek Oberoi entertained, while Karan Johar made a valiant effort to upstage SRK and Saif along with co-host Vidya Balan but was upstaged by SRK and Saif. Surprise absentees from the function were the Bachchans.
