New Delhi, March 2 (IANS) At the age of 85, flamboyant lawyer and MP Ram Jethmalani, who earlier starred in a music video, is all set to debut in a film.
'I am coming in a movie on Sindhi culture, which will be screened in Delhi soon,' Jethmalani told IANS. He has a nearly 10-minute-long role in the movie 'The Awakening' made by Dubai-based NRI Khushi Lalwani.
'In the film, I play the role of a chief guest who is handing over an award for a successful Sindhi person to the heroine. When she comes to receive the award I ask her what she knows about Sindhi culture,' Jethmalani explained.
'Then the heroine refuses to accept it, saying she does not deserve it. But I say, 'I will crown you but you should learn about Sindhi culture.' She agrees and receives the honour. That's my role,' he said.
A Sindhi himself, the flamboyant lawyer and former central minister earlier played the role of a lonely bachelor reminiscing his lost love in a music video, 'Tanha'.
The two-hour-15 minute-long 'The Awakening' has dialogues in Hindi and English. It will be specially screened March 9 in the Films Division auditorium here, a screening to be attended by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani, also a Sindhi.
'Jethmalani has done a great job in the movie,' Lalwani told IANS over telephone from Mumbai.
According to Lalwani, the movie was a 'bold attempt to show Sindhi culture'.
'The Sindhis had gone through a bad time during partition. Although they were scattered throughout the world, they have made themselves a big success in whichever field they work. But they are losing their roots,' she said.
The movie, which tells the story of a US-born Sindhi woman and her efforts to find her roots, will be presented in India and internationally.
