The impact that writer Sujatha had on personalities from various fields was deeply felt at the memorial meeting organised jointly by Uyirmai Padhipagam, former Doordarshan director A. Natarajan and filmmakers Parthiban and Vasanth at the Narada Gana Sabha in Mylapore yesterday. Several leading personalities from various fields spoke eloquently on the writer and his contribution to Tamil, films and science. Actor Kamal Hassan, a long time collaborator of Sujatha, was of the opinion that the writer shaped contemporary Tamil writing. 'His writings were fresh and energetic and drew youngsters towards Tamil literature,' he said adding that he missed the writer personally. Acclaimed writer Jayakanthan said that Sujatha broke rules and created history. 'I do have differences of opinion with him but I admire him a lot,' he said. Lyricist Vairamuthu said that Sujatha had established his very own style which he dubbed as Sujathaism. Writer Manushyaputhiran of Uyirmai Padhipagam was of the opinion that it was Sujatha, who after poet Bharathi, revolutionised Tamil writing to a great extent. He also added that the publication will institute an award under the writer's name to honour budding writers. Clippings from Vijay TV's 'Sigaram Thotta Manidhargal' featuring the writer were shown sending everyone into a wave of nostalgia. Actors Sivakumar, Sathyaraj, playwright 'Crazy' Mohan, cartoonist Madan, writers Sivashankari, Charu Nivedita, Ra.Ki.
