Mumbai, Mar 30 (ANI): Top Indian designers on Sunday showcased their latest collections at the Lakme Fashion Week.

The second day at the on going Lakme Fashion Week began with fresh blood Kallol Datta, Digvijay Singh, Sudhir Nayak and Tapash Biswas showcasing their creativity on the ramp and needless to say it was worth an effort.

A student of fashion design from National Institute for Fashion Technology (NIFT) Kolkata, Kallol Datta graduated in the year 2004. He followed it up with a women's wear degree from St. Martins, London in 2006.

His label, 'Kallol Datta 1955' has the date added on because it's the year his mother was born.

His collection for the day was named 'Body Form' -- it basically treated clothes as decomposing corpses! He drew his inspiration from Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali.

New entrant Digvijay Singh was an all men affair. His approach to fashion can be termed as the 'Renaissance of Fashion' where he beautifully blended various cross-cultural elements.

The show was unique and exclusive as the collection was based on the handloom fabrics like silk, cotton and khadi. The designer has also played with a lot of colours like whites, blacks and greys.

"This collection is basically inspired by 'Patina'. Patina is particular green colour, which is formed on top of the copper due to the oxidation process. So that was the basic inspiration and the whole look was somewhere in between a casual and a formal look and it was funky," said Digvijay Singh.

Last show before noon was presented by the designer duo Sudhir Nayank and Tapash Biswas.

This pret and highly wearable collection drew its inspiration from the relationship between an artist and his muse.

"Cuts were very much structured. We have just omitted the flowing structure; we don't have anything very flowy. It is a very retro look, what we used to see in 50's and 80's like you have seen the Janet Jackson look, just that look we have portrayed in this collection, with hats and conceptualization of bags. You have seen all were quilted with sponge," said Tapash Biswas, the designer.

The prints of this collection have been developed from the brush strokes and the impatient flinging around of the brush and the paint droplets in the canvas.

Lakme Fashion Week will serve as big morale booster for these young Turks with international buyers and fashion experts visiting the venue. (ANI)
