MUMBAI (Reuters) - Designer Kiran Uttam Ghosh unveiled a chic collection in silks at the Lakme Fashion Week on Sunday, although some buyers said it wasn't quite a suitable line for winter.
Models walked the ramp in jerseys and kaftans in indigos, blacks and browns with silhouettes an unusual mix of hats, trousers and jackets coupled with sportswear, opulent embroidery and traditional Indian prints.
"It is essentially an Indian touch line in which I have tried to mix different fabrics in the silhouettes," Ghosh said on the second day of the fashion event showcasing the autumn and winter collections of 57 designers.
"The collection has borrowed a lot from menswear, sportswear but ends up as a strikingly different, super chic women wear."
But Ghosh's ensembles didn't appeal to buyers from countries that go through severe winters.
"When you showcase your clothes for autumn/winter, you need to go heavy on sweaters, woollen jackets and coats," said Sukhjeet Kaur Bharj, a buyer from Norway.
Pria Kataria Puri's show saw models sashay down the runway in short and sheath sequined dresses in white, silver and gold with bubble hems, balloon hems and saris with red embroidery at the borders.
But Bollywood designer Neeta Lulla failed to impress with her line "Immortal Love" -- despite her show featuring a model dancing to Hindi love songs during a sequence.
Lulla unveiled a collection with frilled dresses, woollen coats and saris in white, beige, brown and red with embellishments at the neckline, hems, waistlines and gloves.
"If you say immortal love, the first thing that comes to your mind is colours, colours and more colours and the palate she used was dull and muted," said Naveen Karya.
