MUMBAI (Reuters) - Designer Narendra Kumar Ahmed bowled over audiences at the Lakme Fashion Week on Monday with a fusion line inspired by pink city Jaipur.
Ahmed used pink predominantly in his ensembles and turned to the pavilions and mazes of Jaipur's forts and houses for his prints.
The designer showcased structured jackets, trousers and dresses in taffeta, silk and lurex with a rich colour palette of peach, fuchsia, silver, wine and burgundy splashed on dresses that also had rose prints.
"I love Jaipur, it is my romance for the pink city that inspired my collection," Ahmed said after his show on day three of the fashion week in Mumbai.
"The clothes blend Indian and European sensibilities and heavily showcase architecture blends of the mazes and pavilions of Jaipur."
Ahmed is among 57 designers showing autumn/winter collections at the five-day Lakme Fashion Week that ends on Wednesday.
Designer Nandita Mahtani's "Life's A Journey" collection had flowy, layered and shift dresses for women with flared trousers and high-waist skirts in georgettes, chiffons and woollen knits.
There was a classical touch in her men's line with blazers, pants, shirts and sweaters in drill, stretch denim suede and silks with light embellishments.
Fresh designs were evident in Nikasha Tawadey's collection as she blended vintage mulmuls with contemporary block prints for printed and embroidered ensembles that had an eclectic mix of bright colours.
Anupama Dayal's "Clover" line had dresses with elements borrowed from nature like flowers and motifs embellished with wood, mirror, glass and textile at the borders. The saturated colour scheme - lime green, salmon pink, saffron - enhanced the nature effect.
