It's quite a bonanza time in Pakistan where Hindi films are concerned. Knowing the obsession for all things filmy acdeoss the border, specially when it comes to the Mumbai film industry, we guess the public must be delighted by the release of Abbas-Mustan's Race and Aamir Khan's Taare Zameen Par.
Race became only the second Hindi film after Goal to be released in both India and Pakistan at the same time. Meanwhile, the Pakistani film Khuda Kay Liye releases in India this Friday. There is a second Pakistani film, Khulay Aasman Ke Neechay which is due to released in India this summer. The neighbourly spirit is quite commendable. Hindi films have been banned in Pakistan for quite a while now. But it seems that a moderate section of Pakistani legislators have called for a lifting of the ban on Indian films. This will also put an end to the piracy of Indian film across the border. Incidentally, Pakistan is as bowled over by Taare Zameen Par as Indians were. Race too, is reportedly doing very well in that country. The prospect of another market opening up before them should come as good news for our producers and distributors. May we all continue to love our neighbours and their films.
