Although the star protests in support of the cause of Hogenakkal Water Project and the welfare of Tamils residing in Karnataka witnessed huge turn out from the Tamil film industry, many actors and technicians still failed to mark their presence inviting action against them from the Nadigar Sangam.
The council that convened yesterday to discuss on this issue decided to send notices seeking explanations from members who did not attend the protests held on April 4, 2008.
Actors who will receive these showcase notices include but not limited to Karthik, Napoleon, Manivannan, Sivakumar, Asin, Nila, Meena, Meera Jasmine, Malavika, Padmapriya, Navya Nair, Gopika, Revathy, Suhasini, Rohini, Sridevi, Lakshmi, and Aishwarya. Directors K. Balachander, Bharathiraja, Manirathnam, and Shankar and Musicians Ilayaraja, A.R. Rahman, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Devisri Prasad and prominent singers SPB, Yesudas, Mano, Tippu, Chitra, Janaki, and Suseela will also get showcause notices for not attending the protests.
It has been calculated that an estimated 1000 members from various councils have not attended the protests. Nadigar Sangam will send notices to members through respective councils, a press release said. However, the Sangam has decided to exempt senior artistes like Nambiar, Nagesh, M.N. Rajam, Anjali Devi, Vijayakumari, and K.R. Vijaya from the list.
