Chiyaan Vikram celebrated his birthday at the Residency Towers, Chennai by launching various welfare schemes and a website.
He not only inaugurated the Kasi Eye Bank but was also the first to donate his eyes. Taking cue from their father, his son and daughter also joined him in the eye donation. Apart from the trio, thousands of fans also joined their favorite star by signing the papers for eye donation. “While acting in the film Kasi I understood the travails of the blind, which prompted me to start the eye bank. Moreover I wanted to give back something to this society that has given so much to me,” the actor said.
Vikram also launched the Vikram Foundation for Social Service in collaboration with the Ramachandra Medical Hospital. Prof. Viswanathan, HOD and an ophthalmologist received the eye donation documents from the star. Kavitha, a beneficiary of eye donation, narrated her heartrending tale at the function that had everyone moved. Forced to go to work at the age of 12 so that she could buy a uniform, Kavitha suffered an insect sting, which made her blind. Nearly 12 years later, she got back her vision, thanks to the Ramachandra Hospital and a donor.
Vikram also launched www.chiyaanvikram.net, which will contain information about the star. An interesting feature of this web site is that it will contain small pictures of the actor in puzzle form, which when joined will develop into a never-seen-before Vikram still. Other than this, there would be a chat section in which Vikram would answer fans queries when time permits and exciting contests.
