It takes guts to take on Amitabh Bachchan, specially if you are a relative newcomer. Director Anurag Basu, with just three films under his belt, is still a baby to the industry, so one wonders why he decided to take on the Big B.
Apparently, in an interview to a filmi magazine, the director is believed to have said that the magic of Amitabh Bachchan is no more and that the legend has started acting mechanical of late and it is high time that he retire gracefully. Of course, he also said that he had been a huge fan of Bachchan and that is one of the reasons why he is in Bollywood today. But Basu would rather watch the old classic of the Big B then films like Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag. Well, the Big B is hardly one to take it lying down. He retorted that there were many who had predicted his doom, many journalists, and even people in the industry. But the particular journalist who was baying for his blood has passed away, the directors who had written him off have stopped directing films. The Big B, however did not wish such a fate on Basu but added that he needed no one to tell him when he should leave the industry. One wonders what Basu has to say to that!
