"When I started off my foray with the world of glitz and glamour as a 16 year old kid, I knew instinctively that this was the place for me", says Kunal Shivdasani, now in his early 30s and getting ready to showcase his HIJACK to the world soon."I started off taking odd jobs while being fascinated by what goes into making movies. Soon I graduated to being an ad film maker and directed more than 300 commercials. Of course making movies was the next logical step and thankfully I didn't have to wait quite long for that", reflects Kunal who has Shiney Ahuja and Esha Deol coming together for the first time in his thriller which he admits is on the lines of DIE HARD.
Considering that fact that not many films around mid-air crises have been made in India before, was he really comfortable about the idea of executing a subject which doesn't have many precedents?
"I wished to make an original subject. Period. I couldn't find any reason why should I have had followed the tried and tested route and made something which has been made before dozens of times", reasons Kunal, "So what if exploring a romantic or a comic genre in your first ever outing is considered as safe, there is always some excitement when you go get to do something as challenging as a subject like HIJACK."
There is one thing about being excited by an idea and another about selling the same idea to people who put their money. Was it easy to find buyers for the film?
"You may not believe this but when the story idea was narrated to Sunil and Kishore Lulla of EROS Entertainment, they were completely sold", he informs, "The film was approved in 5 mins flat and from there it was just the matter of getting the film being readied for release. They themselves were of the view that films belonging to such genre should be made and since then have completely supported the film."
