This week at the box office has no encouraging news for Bollywood at the box office. According to the trade reports, neither of last week's releases, Bhoothnath or Jimmy have created much of a stir at the box office.
Coming first to Bhoothnath, it has quite a bit going for it. Being marketed as a children's film, Bhoothnath has a lot going for it in terms of timing. With it being the summer holidays, one would have expected kiddies to throng the theatres with their parents, but sadly the scenario is far removed from that. Bhoothnath's collections on the opening day in Mumbai hovered around 30 to 40 percent, touching 50 at places. But outside Mumbai, the story is different with collections dipping even further. The other release of the week, Jimmy is an absolute non starter at the box office with collections reported to be around 10 to 20 percent. They may even dip further. Of the other films, Tashan isn't creating any waves despite its release in multiplexes. And as for Pranali, Anamika and Mr White Mr Black: these films have been totally rejected by the audiences. The following week will see the release of Jannat, directed by Kunal Deshmukh and starring Emraan Hashmi. Let's see, if it is able to create a Jannat for itself at the box office.
