London, June 21 (IANS) Britney Spears apparently feared she wouldn't live to be 28 years old, claims author Ian Halperin, who spent 18 months studying the pop star's life.

During this period, Halperin got close to her family and friends and is now putting down all his observations in a book, according to contactmusic.com.

He says Spears has drug problems, is bipolar and has suicidal tendencies. Halperin also claims that she personally told him about her fears of not living to be 28.

The author said: 'She told me she feared she'd die at age 27 (her current age), just like other music stars, like Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain.'

Spears turns 28 Dec 2.
